Button and M&M Noses

About 6 months ago, I picked Isabella up from school and her teacher informed me that I should take Isabella to the doctor right away, that she had shoved a button up her nose. They took a flash light and looked up her nose but couldn't see it - so I was to take her to the doctor. I thought maybe the teachers were just having a bad day that day and walked away thinking....who shoves a button up their nose? NOT my daughter. When I came home that night, I tilted Izzy's head back complete with flash light and tweezers but did not see a button. I even asked her if she shoved a button up her nose and she told me no mommy, there is no button up my nose. So I was satisfied. Then just to be sure, I had Bob take a look and he found nothing as well. About 1 week after the teacher told me that, I was folding the clothes in the dryer when Isabella came running up to me after she had just sneezed and yelled LOOK MOMMY! The button came out of my nose - with a BIG SMILE on her face! As I looked down in her hand, there it was, the white rhinestone snot covered button in her small little hand. Were talking about the big button that you have on the front of your pants to buckle your jeans. My eyes got the size of a golf ball and I just shook my head. How does one shove a button that big in such a small little nose? How does this happen? And then...it happened to me again tonight. Only this time with Giselle. She was sitting on my lap in a dark movie theater and Bob came back to the seats with a big bag of M&M's. Not the peanut covered ones, just the milk chocolate. So you can picture the size. Right? Now picture how small Giselle's nose is compared to that m&m. All of a sudden she just starts crying hysterically in the middle of the movie, pointing at her nose. I look and what do I see. Yes, she had shoved an m&m up her nose. I tried getting it out with my finger but could not. Bob took Giselle to the bathroom and used his key to get the m&m out of her nose. After 10 minutes of surgery and a lot of crying, he saved the day. Life sure is an adventure with these two little monkeys but I wouldn't change the "route" they take us on a weekly basis for the world. Sometimes it is filled with craziness, laughter, drama, imagination or even tears but at the end of each day, we sure are lucky to have two little monkeys. Even if they do shove buttons and m&m's up their noses.

Gobble Gobble - Thanksgiving 2013

Ahhhhh....Thanksgiving. This year, the Vail's threw down with a turkey, mashed potato's and gravy, sweet corn, stuffing, sweet rolls and homemade apple pie. I threw the meat thermometer in the garbage. It lied to me. Bob didn't have a lot of carving to do on the turkey though, it just fell right off the bone. Over cooked and dry = Sandy's Thanksgiving day turkey. Whoops. I bet it will make for a great homemade turkey pot pie. : ) How was the homemade stuffing you ask? Not cooked all the way. So far, a turkey over done and stuffing under done. YEAH BABY!!! I wonder where my head was on gobble gobble day. It obviously was not in the kitchen. The sweet corn and rolls were to die for. All in all, we were thankful to have a warm meal in front of us, smiles and THOMAS the turkey : ) Hope you all had a very nice Turkey Day. The girls were full of SMILES.....

Baby G, not such a baby anymore....?

Did you know that 1/3 of American children are still in disposable diapers after their third birthday? A full-time diapered baby averages 5,000-8,000 diaper changes before the completion of potty training..... I can't tell you how many diaper changes we have done (take the statistic above and multiply it by 2, but you don't count when it is your loved ones!), however I will tell you that Bob and I are super excited that miss Giselle Eloise is down to ONE diaper per day. And she wears one to bed at night only because she is too scared to go to the bathroom by herself. This is perfectly understandable considering she is under 3 years old. I imagine everything looks super dark and scary at night and she may be afraid of a "boogy" man or something. We shall overcome this milestone soon. Meanwhile, what do we call her now as her nickname? Bob calls her "G" (which makes me think of TOO SHORT or JAY Z), I still call her "Baby G" and so does Iz. I am not a big fan of "Gi-Gi" and know that we cannot continue to call her "Baby G" forever. Any ideas? CHEERS to a special girl, who celebrates a super special GOLDEN birthday in about 2 months. 1.3.11. I was speaking with someone today and they were not even aware that golden birthdays existed. When I heard this, I was super thankful that our mother made our golden birthdays special. Some do not celebrate I guess. Then I was told that they were celebrating their "golden" wedding anniversary and I was like WAIT?!!!!! There are golden anniversaries too? There is never a day that we do not learn something new and potty training is one of them. Good Job Giselle! It's like a super BIG DEAL!!!

Happy Halloween 2013

Can you believe it is November 1st already? I sure can't! Yesterday was Halloween and Isabella dressed as Jessie from Toy Story and Giselle was a witch. They had a party at school, then came home to trick or treat. Traditionally, we borrow the neighbors golf cart and take the girls trick or treating around the area. Allyson and Baxter usually come with us. The golf cart was not charged though and it was raining outside, so that threw a wrench in our plans. Baxie did not go with us this year because of the rain. Isabella was rocking it out and was having so much fun! Giselle on the other hand, did not want to walk in the rain with her little legs and only lasted about 20 minutes(I don't blame her). So we wrapped up Halloween at the Fernandes house, in which all the neighbors came together and we had chili, corn bread and Bob's homemade apple pie. Until next year.......

FIRST DAY of School Photos

I am surrounded by empty nesters.  For now, I am still celebrating the firsts.  There are always firsts in life...right? I have never been ...
